To ensure a sustainable future, data science and artificial intelligence innovation are widely used
Data science is the preparation of data for analysis. Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is the creation of a predictive model to predict future events, allows computers, machines, or robots to work in place of humans.
Data Science and AI are becoming a transformative phenomenon both for consumers and businesses. It is crucial to understand how it impacts the environment as well as the challenges faced in a more populated, polluted, and competitive world. Global data science and AI market are estimated to be worth more than $309 billion each. This field could see significant technological advances and innovations.
Connected and self-operating electric vehicles
Electric vehicles are better for the environment. They emit fewer greenhouse gases and produce less pollution. This is true even when we consider the electricity needed to use them. AI is playing a major role in the EV Industry by enabling autonomous or unmanned driving, studying driver behaviour patterns, and GPS navigation systems. AI will be used to improve electric vehicles, facilitate EV charging stations and integrate EVs with the smart grid. This will encourage people into electric cars and create a new avenue for eco-driving, which will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Reduce food waste
According to research, India wastes more than 50kg per person each year. This amounts roughly to 68,760.163 tonnes. India ranks at the 94th spot out of 107 nations. Every country produces food waste at the consumer level, regardless of their income.
Innovative AI technology can be used to overcome the challenges of supplying food for a growing global population. AI can be used to help retailers identify and dispose off food items that have gone bad. Data analysis can be used to predict and calculate food consumption in households and restaurants, which will help them reduce food waste. AI could also improve packaging, increase shelf life, and avoid food waste by creating a transparent supply chain management system.
Recycling using advanced methods
The waste recycling system must be improved urgently as most of the waste generated in a given year is single-use. Research in India found that 660,787.85 tons of plastic waste was produced in 2019. Only 60% of this waste was recycled. Segregation of waste is a particular problem with recycling. Robots equipped with sensors to separate different types will facilitate recycling. Each product has a unique texture, shape, size. An automated waste disposal system can also be created using AI. Another way to improve waste recycling is to use image recognition technology.
Reduce Sewage Pollution
Sewage pollution is another problem, especially in India. The main reason for increasing sewage contamination is that most of these problems are not being addressed. Pattern recognition, an AI technique that detects patterns, could help monitor and track wastewater flow. Aside from detecting patterns, algorithms can create crucial data for future research and analysis.
Conservation of species
Over the years, the number of wildlife species has steadily declined. Data science and AI allow environmentalists to study animal movements, behaviour, hunting patterns, and the routes they use to reproduce. It is a powerful way to monitor poaching and, in particular, drones equipped with cameras. Current projects are using AI and data-science to protect forests and monitor wildlife. It allows environmentalists to track rare species of wildlife using smart sensors and cameras.
Climate Change: Get involved
AI and data science could be applied in the future to thousands of issues that affect the environment. With the help of AI technology, data from different Space Research Centres can also be used to monitor and identify changes in land and sea areas, as well as ice caps. Data analysis can also be used to reduce pollution and fight Climate Change.
These technological solutions using AI/data science could help solve some the most difficult environmental problems.
