Tanuj Deora was previously vice president of Boulder-based Clean-Energy Software Company Uplight Inc. and he joined President Joe Biden’s White House Council on Environmental Quality as director for clean energy.
According to an Uplight press release, Deora will be leading the Biden administration’s efforts to ensure that all government operations are sustainable, as required under the Executive Order on Catalyzing Clean Energy Industries & Jobs Through Federal Sustainability. The order includes several promises to leverage federal governments purchasing power, including a transition towards carbon-free energy and net-zero government buildings.
The release stated that Deora, while at Uplight, led the company’s regulatory affairs team. There, he championed legislation and regulatory policies for energy efficiency and demand flexibility, determined market fit and represented the company in industry forums and policymaker meetings.
Deoras prior experience includes a stint at the Colorado Energy Office under Gov. John Hickenlooper.
After three years of helping to create and grow Uplight, it was a rewarding experience to be asked back into public service, especially for this exciting opportunity. Deora stated that she has previously focused on the supply side for clean energy in the solar and wind industries. Now, she is excited to bring her experience to the customer side in our energy system decarbonization challenge. It is particularly exciting to see the administration’s emphasis on leadership by example and a commitment to invest to stimulate the energy markets capacity for CFE. This complements the president’s broader climate policy which is so highly prioritized.
