Environment Canada has Special weather bulletin issuedThe southern half of Manitoba will be affected by a snowfall forecast and strong winds.
According to James Colangelo (a meteorologist with the weather bureau), snowfall is expected Monday night through Tuesday.
On Monday night, an Alberta Clipper will move through the Prairies, traveling from eastern Saskatchewan southeastwards to Lake of the Woods. The Parkland Region, Manitoba, and much of the Red River Valley (including Winnipeg and theWhiteshell) will see the greatest snowfall.
But that’s just the beginning.
Colangelo stated that “on the back side of this system, we could observe some very strong northwesterly wind conditions, so with those winds combined and the fallen snow that’s occurred, we could possibly see some widespread blowing ski conditions for Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night.”
“Travel during this time period is not advised because of the possibility that there could be gusts up to 70 km/h in the Red River Valley. This could potentially create some issues for travel as well as reduced visibility.
The conditions will improve Wednesday morning as winds taper off. However, another surge of Arctic air is expected to move into the Prairies.
According to the bulletin, overnight lows will drop to 30C during the week. Then, milder temperatures will return for the week.
