DeSantis grants $403M to Florida’s environment projects

FLORIDA Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday that he plans to award more $404 million to 113 environmental projects in the state through the Resilient Florida Grant Program.

These projects are designed to protect coastal and inland communities against flooding and storm surge in 25 counties. This includes some Central Florida and Tampa Bay areas counties.

The grant program provided funds for projects in Pinellas and Brevard counties as well as projects within Hillsborough, Lake, Manatee and Orange counties. Click here to view the full list..

Todays record investment, as well as the projects included in the statewide plan for future funding, will strengthen our infrastructure to withstand the impacts of flooding and storm surge, said DeSantis. Florida now has a coordinated strategy of state efforts to protect its coastal and inland infrastructure. This is the first time this has ever been done. This announcement is only the beginning. My administration will continue supporting resilience efforts in the state’s communities.

According to the release, the state and local investments in resilience have surpassed $730 million after today’s award of grant projects.

To help prepare the state and local communities for the effects sea-level rise, storms and flooding, the governor included $640 million in this year’s budget.

In December, DeSantis announced the states first ever Flooding Resilience Plan, which proposes 76 projects across the state totaling over $270 million, subject to appropriation. Click here to view the complete list of Flood Resilience project.
