WINONA Winona’s Frozen River Film Fest is now in its 16th anniversary.
The annual film fest opens Sunday February 6th with a 3 p.m. showing of One Pint at a Time at Frozen River Film Festival Office. It continues through Sunday night’s awards ceremony.

Here are some highlights from this years lineup of feature films and documentaries.
“Boneyard Alaska” John Reeves, an Alaskan miner of gold, discovered a collection containing Ice Age bones. He was interested in their display and collection. A visit by paleontologists revealed new information about North American history.
Screens at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, at Winona Arts Center
“End of the Line – The Women of Standing Rock” is a documentary that follows a group of indigenous women protesting the Dakota Access oil pipeline’s construction. It features a peaceful camp. It features footage never before seen from police body camera.
Screens at 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, at Winona Senior High School It is only available to residents of Winona or the surrounding areas.
“Rez Metal”Later that day, catch this piece at the thriving Navajo metal scene featuring rockers I Dont Conform.
No Name Bar screens at 8 pm on Thursday, February 10,
“Cat Daddies”This documentary examines the bonds between cat dads and pets with men from a group including firefighters, schoolteachers, actors/influencers, and a man who lives on the streets of New York.
Friday, February 11th at 7 p.m. in Winona Senior School
“For the Family Set” Saturday and Sunday are jam-packed full of competing short film sets as well as full-length features. But this collection of shorts also includes animated features and documentaries about children working in community change.
Screening at 9:30 am Saturday, February 12, in the Kryzsko Ballroom of Winona State University.
“Minnesota Shorts” Another set of local documentaries focuses on George Floyds murder in Minnesota in 2020, the history of Minnesotas Old Met Stadium (now replaced with the Mall of America), immigrant ancestry among restauranteurs, and the “most fascinating Minnesotan ever.”
The event begins at 7:30 pm Saturday, February 12th in the Kryzsko Ballroom at Winona State University.
