Environment Agency warns communities along Severn and Wye estuaries to prepare for flooding from Storm Eunice
  • Flooding risk to homes and businesses along the estuaries between Avonmouth and Gloucester
  • Residents urged not to wait for flooding to start

The Environment Agency has urged flood-prone residents in flood-prone areas in the Wye Estuaries to be ready for flooding by Storm Eunice.

The Environment Agency warns people that flooding is possible on Friday morning.

Flooding is possible starting at Avonmouth, up the Severn into Gloucestershire, and along the Wye between Chepstow and Monmouth.

Residents are urged sign up for Environment Agency Flood Warnings and to follow the Prepare, Act, Suffer guidance to prepare for flooding.

  • Prepare a bag with insurance and medical documents
  • Check out the latest flood information online https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/warnings
  • Know how to turn off your electricity, gas, and water
  • Check your insurance to ensure you are covered in case of flood damage. It is your responsibility to insure your belongings if you rent your house.
  • If you are in immediate danger, dial 999 and follow the advice of emergency services.

Gary Bywater Area IncidentDuty Manager at Environment Agency, said:

Strong winds from Storm Eunice may cause large waves and storm surges, which could lead to flooding of homes and businesses along the Wye Estuaries and Severn.

We are trying to give communities early warning so they can plan ahead. We will issue flood alerts if necessary. Our teams are on the ground taking actions to reduce the potential flooding.

Storm Eunice is under Met Office warning. It is advised that people take extra care in the vicinity of the estuary and other coastal areas. We urge everyone to be safe and warn wave-watchers against the unnecessary dangers of stormselfies.
