The fourth Glenview Environmental Sustainability Awards presented nine awards to winners in three categories.
The three companies and one homeowners’ association, which were recognized in the category of innovation, were MFNS Tech, Inc., Intrinsic Landscaping, Ten Ninety Brewing, and the Princeton Village Homeowners Association.
The Beck, Hurvis, Straus and Glenview Park District families were recognized in the category of leadership. Also, Greenwise Organic Lawn Care & Landscaping and Friends of Downtown Glenview were honored.
The category of education and outreach was dominated by the Collective Resource Compost company from Evanston and the Solid Waste Agency in Northern Cook County.
MFNS Tech, Inc. was founded by Glenview residents and developed a product that can add to foams and sponges to clean oil spillages.
Ten Ninety Brewing, Waukegan Road Glenview
Ten Ninety Brewing Company was also honored for innovating a process that prevents brewing waste from becoming waste by selling it off to a farm for livestock feed. Officials from the village said that the brewery completes the cycle by purchasing the meat from the farm to use in the restaurant.
Intrinsic Landscaping was also recognized in the field of innovation. This Glenview-based firm specializes in green roofs, walls and other sustainable landscaping products.
The Princeton Village Homeowners Association was honored in the area innovation for removing dead trees from an area and planting native plants, including the milkweed plant which attracts monarch butterflies.
The Judy Beck Grant program funds projects and programs and was developed and supported by the Judy Beck Grant program. It was recognized by the Straus, Hurvis, Beck, and Straus families.

Beck was a Glenview Park district commissioner, a Glenview Environment and Natural Resources Commissioner, and before retiring, she worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. She was also one Glenview’s first Frog and Fern Ladies. They fought to protect Glenview’s most environmentally sensitive areas.
Friends of Downtown Glenview was also recognized as a leader in the creation of a new riverside cleanup site in downtown Glenview.

Greenwise Organic Lawn Care & Landscaping, which uses electric landscaping tools, was also recognized as a leader and hosts environmental education activities.
Collective Resource Compost, a Glenview company that has been serving residents for almost ten years, was honored for its education and outreach. The company teaches residents about composting, and takes away food scraps.
The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County was also recognized for its outreach and education. Glenview is part of the 23 communities that this agency serves. They have been proactive in education and outreach and have expanded the range of material that can be recycled within their member communities.
