Accepting Community Environmental Academy Applications in the City

After a two year pause, the Community Environmental Academy is open again for applications. This Academy connects Lexington residents to local environmental issues. These topics include water quality, wastewater treatment and urban forestry.

Participants will be able to explore the city’s Department of Environmental Quality and Public Works by participating in a series of talks and tours. These half-day sessions are held on two Saturdays during June, and one Saturday each month from July through November.

Participants will work together for six months to develop and implement projects related to academy topics that are beneficial to their community. Projects will be completed by May 2023.

Nancy Albright, Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Quality and Public Works, said that many of the programs and projects from the Community Environmental Academy’s past still benefit the city. We are excited to provide Lexington residents with the opportunity to engage with our department to improve their community.

Some past CEA projects include:

Applications are open until Thursday, April 31.
