Emily Vollmer, sustainability coordinator, stated that the Earth Week Planning Forums are an open space for everyone to meet students, faculty, staff, and community members to plan events. We don’t want to create a hard border around Virginia Tech’s campus for Earth Week. Therefore, we reach out to the community and offer to host events at The Lyric, The Blacksburg Farmers Market, The Huckleberry Trail, The Blacksburg Public Library, The Lyric, and The Blacksburg Public Library.
Currently, there is a mix of 20 student groups and 14 employee units. Six community groups are also involved in planning Earth Week 2022 events. Forum participants work together to create different themes for each day during Earth Week. They will be as follows this year:
- Sunday, April 17 – Consumerism
- Monday, April 18: Alternative transportation and energy
- Tuesday, April 19, 2009 – Environmental justice
- Wednesday, April 20, 2019 – Community service
- Thursday, April 21, – Habitats of biodiversity
- Friday, April 22 – Art and Wellness
- Saturday, April 23, Beyond Earth Day
