On March 9, a cold front is expected to move through the Lowcountry, bringing heavy winds and thunderstorms to the area.
The National Weather Services Charleston office warned about severe weather in the southeast region of Georgia and South Carolina. This could result in high winds or thunderstorms.
According to the weather service, Charleston will receive one-half to one inch of rain today and into the evening.
Just after 12 p.m. on March 9, rain was forecast to arrive in Charleston.
According to the weather service, the cold front was expected to remain in Charleston until March 11. Michael Stroz, weather service meteorologist, said that the next day would see a low pressure system, which would bring more rain to the area.
The S.C. Forestry Commission’s response on more than 180 wildfires in the state between March 3rd and March 8 would bring about weeks of rain.
Stroz said that it had been so dry. Any rain will help to reduce the dryness. Rain is also important for those who are concerned about fire.
Stroz said that depending on whether severe storms develop, wind speeds could reach 60 MPH, which could bring down trees and branches.
According to the weather service, there may also be a few tornadoes if severe storms are to form.
