Ramsahay Prasad Yodav, Nepal’s environment and forest minister, spoke out on the climate crisis facing the world and called it the “most serious problem”, especially for developing countries. He emphasized the effects of climate change on Nepal.
Yadav stated that Nepal is “highly sensitive” to climate changes while speaking at the WION Climate Summit. He stated that the recent climate-related events have shown that Nepal’s sensitivity to climate changes has been increasing. He stated that we must be prepared to deal with the issue.

During his speech at the summit, the minister stated that “Due to topography and geology, microclimatic conditions and the associated livelihoods with climate-sensitive sectors and limited financial institution capacity, the climate induced responsibility may increase.”
Further, the minister stated that Nepal has a very low contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, but that its climate vulnerability is among the highest. He said that Nepal has approved a long-term strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
He also stated that the development should aim to be net-zero by 2045, and submitted it to UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

He said that climate change adaptation was the priority of Nepal in climate actions. He also stated that Nepal’s recently approved National Adaptation Plan of Nepal is now in effect and that the country will follow the National Adaptation Plan document’s guidelines for its adaptation actions.
He stated that Nepal is determined to prepare and implement a local adaptation plan for all municipalities by 2030. This is reflected in the nationally determined contribution.
He stated that Nepal needs “significant financial resources and technology support to develop its capacity to deal with climate change.”
He added that both regional and global partnerships are vital to successfully combat climate change challenges.
