NAMI environmental award for 44 Tyson Foods plants

Tyson Foods had 44 plants recently recognized by the North American Meat Institute for their positive environmental impact. The Environmental Recognition Awards are given to companies that demonstrate a commitment towards continuous environmental improvement. This is evident in the development and implementation Environmental Management Systems.

The EMS model is designed for continuous, measurable improvement in Tyson’s environmental compliance performance. The model tracks Tyson’s progress on reducing Tyson’s carbon footprint, reducing water intensity per product pound, reducing waste sent to the landfills, as well as helping to find ways of extracting value from secondary materials.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for the steps Tyson is taking to make a positive impact on environmental compliance results, and we’re proud of the hard work from each of our plants as we endeavor to sustainably feed the world,” says Kevin Igli, SVP and chief environmental officer at Tyson Foods. “These awards show Tyson’s commitment towards protecting the environment and making positive changes in the communities in which we live and work.”

“With 44 facilities receiving awards, Tyson Foods is a bold example for the meat and poultry industry as we work to continuously improve our operations’ environmental sustainability,” says Julie Anna Potts, president and CEO of the North American Meat Institute. “We look forward learning more about Tyson’s efforts through the Meat Institute Protein PACT, For the People, Animals and Climate of Tomorrow, where we will track the industry’s progress in meeting its sustainability targets.”

The recognition awards are classified by four tiers in order to encourage EMS improvement through a step-by, systematic approach. Tier 1 is for compliance policies, while Tier 4 is for the highest level environmental management. For the complete list of Tyson plant award recipients, please see below.
