Ridleys Dr Richard Smullen thanked APFA as well as the Council for acknowledging Ridleys investments.
Innovations like the Propel diets that support sustainable production take time and significant input from our industry partners.
We are proud of the fact we have created a high performing product that reduces the use of marine resources in prawn food. This allows for a significant reduction of protein levels which results in a lower level of nitrogen being released to the environment. Dr Smullen stated that this is sustainable and can be certified by independent certifying agencies.
Propel feeds are made of plant and animal raw material and contain two key ingredients – Novacq, a unique microbial bio ingredient developed by CSIRO and licensed to Ridley in Australia; and Ridley’s highly digestible land-based animal protein source.
Kim Hooper, Executive officer, Australian Prawn Farmers Association, says that sustainable production is a top priority for the sector and that this technology is a significant breakthrough.
It is evident how important this technology is to our industry by the rapid adoption by farmers. This technology allows Australian prawn growers to meet the sustainable aquaculture standards set by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council and Best Aquaculture Practices. It is a world first, and it really puts prawn growers ahead of the pack in sustainable aquaculture.
