You can make a difference in your community while helping the environment. Join the Adopt-A-Highway Kansas program.
Litter is unsightly, dangerous, and can have a negative impact on Kansas residents as well as visitors. Each section of highway right is cleaned by participating groups and creates miles of clean roadsides that everyone can enjoy. This helps to raise awareness about the negative impacts of pollution and the benefits of a clean community.
The program requires that groups sign a 2-year agreement. There is no cost to them. The Kansas Department of Transportation sponsors the program and provides safety training, trash bags, and orange vests to each group. The groups clean up three times per year at their convenience. They are also recognized for their efforts by displaying signs on their sections of highway.
Adopt-A-Highway organizations are gearing up to participate in the annual Clean Up Kansas Campaign. This campaign takes place during April. All Adopt-A-Highway organizations are encouraged, but not required, to participate in the statewide event.
Any non-profit group can join that does no discriminate on the grounds of race, religion, or gender. All members must be at least 11 years of age and under the supervision of an adult. For more information, please contact the KDOT office closest to you (listed below).
