Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says the government is “safeguarding” Australia’s unique environment for “future generations”.
He announced a $636million investment to expand the Indigenous Ranger Program.
More than $800 million will be invested to fund “vital research and environmental management” and enhance scientific capability in the Antarctic.
Mr Frydenberg also announced there would be “an additional $1 billion in world-leading marine science to protect the Great Barrier Reef”.
There will also be more than $170 million for “threatened species and habitat restoration, including for our koalas,” he said.
