DVIDS – News – Director, IMCOM–P highlights people & environment during tour of USAG Daegu

Craig L. Deatrick, Director of Installation Management Command Pacific, visited U.S. Army Garrison Daegu on March 28th to tour installation facilities. He also recognized members of the IMCOM team who have rendered outstanding service to Army communities.

Deatrick was able to see a lot. The USAG Daegu community has seen several construction projects completed over the past year. These include significant renovations to multiple fitness centres, an updated lounge area for Soldiers, and a renovated teen centre. There are also new American-style housing options at Camp Walker.

Deatrick spoke with members of the garrison staff during his visit to address lines of effort and encourage professional development.

“[One of the things]Deatrick stated that the Army is currently focusing on the environment and finding less carbon-intensive ways of using and reusing energy. “This is a major focus for your commander. Your Installation Energy and Water Plan can help facilitate this.”

All Army installations are required to complete Installation Energy and Water Plans. These Plans outline critical mission requirements and assess energy and base conditions. They also develop a prioritized approach for both projects and operations and maintenance activities that improve water resilience and energy efficiency.

IMCOM-Pacific is based at Fort Shafter in Hawaii and manages U.S. Army facilities in four countries, the United States of America, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

The U.S. Army in the Pacific is a vast geographical area that includes more than 40 countries as well as some of the largest foreign armies in the world. The Pacific is one the most diverse Army areas. It is also one of the most politically, economically, culturally and politically important.
