NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM). – Twenty entities were fined by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), for violating state environmental regulations. This includes three North Texas entities.
Hurst was penalized for unauthorized discharge of polluted water into a creek. TCEQ found that at least 78 fish were killed by the untreated water. Hurst has since fixed the problem by replacing the sewer mains, disposing off dead fish, and containing contaminated water. The city was fined $7,000.
Mansfield ISD was penalized $18,150 for not complying with the limits on pollutants in water.
Hurricane Harbor was penalized $15,000 by TCEQ after failing to prevent the release of pool water with high chlorine levels into the storm sewer collection system of the City of Arlington. This then contaminated Johnson Creek.
According to the orders Mansfield ISD must correct the issue within 130 Days. Hurricane Harbor will need to make changes within 30 days and submit written certification in 45 days.
