The Tier 1 Draft Environmental Impact Statement has been released by the Mid-States Corridor Regional Development Authority (Indiana Department of Transportation) for the Mid-States Corridor Project. The organization announced on Tuesday that it had chosen Alternative P as the route for the proposed highway.

The proposed route extends 54 mi from I-64/U.S. 231 to I-69 at Odon’s existing U.S. 231 intersection. It generally runs parallel to U.S. 231.

The Mid-States Corridor Projects Study Process, Analysis and Findings are summarized in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). INDOT states that it contains the basis for selecting the route and key commitments related to the project. It also evaluates the benefits, costs, and impacts of other options.

This is one of the 10 routes being considered. It travels east from Huntingburg and Jasper, but avoids developed areas. This route, according to the development authority would have the most minimal impact on environmental resources like wetlands.

The DEIS comment period is open until May 31. Click here to view the report

Public hearings on the project are being held at the moment. They will take place at WestGate Academy in Odon on April 26th, and at the Jasper Arts Center at Vincennes University’s Jasper Campus on April 28th.
