Groups of community members come together to clean up the environment and prepare for the next generation

RAPID CITY (S.D.) (KEVN). – This week, over one-hundred-fifty teams of volunteers and as many as two thousand volunteers are expected to participate in Rapid City’s annual Community Cleanup. Salvation Army volunteers met at Cherry Avenue to remove the trash that had been left behind and polluting our community.

Cherry creek, right next to me, has been plagued with trash. Major Jerry ONeil claims it has been an ongoing problem.

He stated that stuff is thrown in there, then along this fence line. As I said, when the wind blows…the bags blowing…then they get caught in trees and caught in the fence. People walk by this area thinking it’s a garbage dump, so they throw it in the ground and move on.

Monument health will be assembling cleanup teams to clean up the city over the next few days. This is all in an effort to reduce pollution for the future generation.

Major ONeil states that we all need to be aware of and care about the environment. It matters.

It is possible to be conscientious about every napkin, cup, and cup. However, in a large city, if everyone lets a napkin or cup go, it becomes quite significant.
