LAWRENCE Join The KU Center for Environmental Policy (part of the Institute for Policy & Social Research at The University of Kansas) at 4 p.m. on April 26 at The Commons for a listening event on environmental justice with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 7.
Dietrich Earnhart from the KU’s environmental policy center stated that the EPA is very concerned about environmental justice.
This session will feature a discussion featuring a panel of students who are involved in environmental issues. The topic of environmental justice is a concern for the EPA. It will discuss how communities are not equally affected by environmental pollution, poor air quality and water quality, as well as how these environmental burdens can be caused by extreme weather events like climate change.
Meg McCollister (EPA Region 7 administrator) said that Region 7 is excited about the opportunities to reconnect with our communities following the long pause caused by COVID-19. It is important to hear from all our communities. This listening session offers a unique opportunity to hear from students across the United States and around the globe. Sessions like these will help us shape our efforts and the direction of the EPA.
