Kamal Bawa, a conservation biologist from Bengaluru, was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. Kamal Bawa is president, Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and Environment in Bengaluru (ATREE), and an elected fellow at the Royal Society (London), and the American Philosophical Society.
Dr. Bawa said that the election is a reaffirmation our important work on ecology, conservation, management and management for tropical forests that are declining around the world, but are crucial to humanitys well being.
Dr. Bawa brought together scientists and other experts from India to create the National Mission on Biodiversity and Human Wellbeing. It was established under the Biodiversity Collaborative banner. The office of the Principal Scientist Adviser to India funded the effort.
