Ambassador Belgrove made the remarks yesterday, Wednesday, as he paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Rohey John-Manjang in her office on Kairaba Avenue.
He told the minister that he wanted him to express his support in all matters and that we would be honored to work with such an active ministry as well as the country as a whole.
He stated that COP27 is nearing and that they hope it will have a focus on Africa.
He added that we will continue to advocate on behalf of you to access climate finance, while congratulating Madam John Manjang on her appointment to the role as minister.
He also congratulated The Gambia, particularly MECCNAR, for their hard work.
He noted that The Gambia, through the Ministry, is leading the launch of revised Nationally Determine Contributions.
The High Commissioner Belgrove also commended The Gambia for their leadership in the Least Developed Countries.
Hon. Rohey John Manjang, minister for Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources, (MECCNAR), thanked the High Commissioner Belgrove, who was the first official to give her a courtesy phone call after she was sworn in as a minister.
She also pointed out that The Gambia’s British High Commission has been a close partner of the Government of The Gambia.
Minister John-Manjang says climate change is now everyone’s business, and that wise people are taking the initiative to lead.
She thanked the former minister for Environment and his team for their efforts towards climate chance, noting how they have raised the name of The Gambia.
Hon. John-Manjang indicated that her Ministry will work to see projects successfully implemented from start-to-finish, including those done in collaboration with British High Commission.
