Maroon Group was an environmental and energy management company that had been at the forefront of innovative programs in the field long before it was acquired by Ohio’s EPA in December 2020. Maroon has been rebranded to be called BarentzThe Netherlands-based company is called. The same commitment to sustainability is made by the parent company.
To recognize environmental stewardship within this industry, the Ohio EPA partnered up with the National Association of Chemical Distributors. Maroon was founded by specialty resins, specialty colors, specialty pigments, packaging, and other supplies to more than 2,100 customers. This includes those who work in the paint and coatings industry, as well as plastics, sealants, adhesives, and other industries. It was also used by the construction, rubber, chemical compounders, and other industries.
Maroon has strategically placed warehouse facilities throughout the country which allows them to provide next-day delivery service to 65% of North America’s industrial manufacturers reducing transportation and handling needs and the associated environmental impacts associated with these activities, says Ohios EPA. The structure allows for same-day delivery and leaves little carbon footprint.
Maroon is Green
Maroon was the company’s name. It participated in many sustainability programs, ranging from recycling to energy efficiency and pollution prevention. In all cases, the team members are present. All team members, from the execs who write the checks to those on the floor, are included.
It is important to encourage staff members to volunteer in the local community to foster environmental stewardship. It could involve planting trees, sharing recycling success stories, or picking up trash from the streets. The company also recognizes those workers who go above-and-beyond.
Recycling goes beyond recycling aluminum cans and bottles. This means that all cardboard materials that separate or wrap products during transport can be reused. The company also says that wood pallets and bracing material can be reused. Wood from container shipments can be used for bracing in future shipments.
For corrugated cardboard and plastics, separate recycling and waste dumpsters can be used to increase recycling. The Ohio EPA also states that printer paper, aluminum cans and plastic bottles as well as printer cartridges can be recycled.
The company also takes steps in order to Reduce your energy consumption. How? All offices and warehouses have motion sensors that detect when someone enters a room. The lights will automatically turn off when they are gone. Skylights are installed whenever possible to increase daylight and reduce the use of electricity. All offices and warehouses use programmable thermostats. Timers are used in order to lower temperatures at night, even if no one is present. The last thing is that electric lift equipment uses rechargeable battery power.
Safety and pollution control are also essential. These programs address chemical spillage prevention by focusing on containment and handling. Three 15,000-gallon storage rooms are used by the company to ensure complete containment of materials being handled. You cannot store containers larger than 300 gallons in this area.
It also states that water flowing from the property will be redirected to a retention basin before entering city sewers. This is to ensure that contaminants are not allowed to enter the sewers. Importantly, the facility is registered with an emergency spill cleanup company that is available 24 hours a day.
We are mindful of our responsibilities to customers, communities, employees, and suppliers. We look forward to expanding our ESG programs in 2022 and beyond, Scott Simmons, Barentz global Director of Environmental, Social and Governance program.
The company will also examine its energy consumption and emissions. The chemical maker will also examine policies within its supply chain.
Barentz claims that businesses can achieve more when they work together than those working in isolation. It will also verify that suppliers adhere to the principles it sets out. It is important that everyone moves in the same direction and not single out any one entity. Barentz claims it will close any gaps in policy.
What can chemical producers do to make their products more eco-friendly?
This sector is responsible for preserving air, water, soil, and other natural resources. It also has to get rid of industrial wastewater, limit its use of natural resource, and become more energy efficient. A piece written for ReAgentLucy Bell-Young explains that chemical producers are always trying to balance the need reduce their environmental footprint with optimal production. Here are some steps:
Reduce the temperature of the stream prior to it being released into the atmosphere.
Hazardous waste products should be disposed of in tightly sealed containers or in specially marked dumpsters
The chemical sector, which uses a lot metals, minerals and hydrocarbons, is more dependent on renewables to power its operations. As the demand for chemicals rises and renewable prices fall, so does the need.
Bell-Young says that renewable energy can be used to optimize energy use and reduce the environmental impact. It could be as simple as establishing local renewable energy projects on-site or entering into power purchase contracts. Any by-products can be reused or recycled, which will help the company’s bottom line.
