Florida Gov. From his first days in the role of state’s top executive, Ron DeSantis was in a delicate spot. He is an environmentally conscious Republican and has had to deal with the fact that a large portion of his base believes the apparent rise in global temperatures are a hoax. During a recent news conference in TampaHe announced a number of climate change mitigation plans while decrying the use words like “global heating”

“We’re a low-lying state, we’re a storm-prone state, and we’re a flood-prone state,” DeSantis told the crowd. “And so we worked with the Legislature to say, OK how are we going to address this in a way that’s going to protect Florida’s communities, protect our economic livelihood and make sure we’re doing what we need to do.”

DeSantis, a Republican stands against any form of government. might cause a business ownerC-Suite type, a little discomfort. His proposals are not likely to stop the growth of the kind of extractive businesses that has fueled the crisis. He refused to use the term “global heating” in response to a reporter’s question, saying it was a Trojan Horse for ideological concerns.

“What I’ve found is when people start talking about things like global warming they typically use that as a pretext to do a bunch of left-wing things that they would want to do anyways. And so we’re not doing any left-wing stuff,” he said.

DeSantis is willing and able to increase stormwater drainage, as well as build seawalls to address the current problem. The projects are almost entirely focused upon moving the encroaching water more efficiently. The initial wave of projects is expected to cost $270 millions.

The narrow framework created by the United States’ center-right, two-party system means that leftist solutions to the climate crisis aren’t even on the table, as much as DeSantis likes to tilt at Communist, electricity-producing windmills.

Anarchist collectives are not using punitive taxes on polluters or businesses that cause active damage. The only solution to climate changes is to stop our carbon-heavy and consumption-based economy. But that’s not what you’ll hear from the right-wing cranks who regularly make Joseph Stalin pictures and rail against it. DeSantis campaign merch.
