OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) – The environmental impact report for the proposed new baseball complex for the Oakland A’s was released Friday morning.
The Oakland A’s want to build a brand new stadium on the waterfront, this report is a key step in moving the complex closer to a final decision.
This report has 3,500 pages and is dense. It also contains many details about the proposed $12 million waterfront ballpark.
On the positive side, Mayor Libby Schaaf calls the release of the report quoted, “a major milestone on our path to building a new waterfront ballpark; district that will create up to 18 acres of beautiful public parks, more affordable housing, and good jobs for Oaklanders.”
The report examines whether the Mammoth Proposal complies with all federal and state rules and regulations.
400 comments were made and discussed in this report.
Some issues that were raised and need to be resolved include parking management, pollution, trash removal, and increased vehicle traffic.
In the original plan, it didn’t mention who would pay to purchase the affordable housing.
Oakland A’s President Dave Kaval applauded the report, saying it has been three years in the making.
In January, the Oakland Planning Commission will hold a public hearing about the final environmental impact.
The decision is expected to be made by the Oakland City Council in February 2022.
Today, the Port of Oakland also identified 21 recommended compatibility measures for seaports to ensure safe and efficient navigation of vessels and other waterside operations.
Let’s say that this document of 3,500 pages states that the project was properly investigated and has met federal and state standards. The planning commission and Oakland City Council now have the authority to move forward.
