A hostile environment can destroy civilisations and make it impossible for them to survive.

The destruction of the environment is a sure way for civilisations to survive. According to Suresh, an environmentalist and filmmaker, the skyscrapers that are built in big cities pose a grave danger to humanity.

He was speaking as a guest at Art-xuberance Envibe (an intercollegiate national-level festival organised by Alvas College’s Humanities Department in Moodbidri).

He said that India has been destroying the environment to promote development. India’s metropolitan cities are not scientifically designed in the West. These cities emit poisonous air, water, and cause many diseases.

Heblikar expressed concern about the environmental degradation and stated that, despite their ability to amass wealth, they are incapable of creating water.

We only know 10% of all the diversity. He lamented that our food and water are now contaminated like never before.

Dr Mohan Alva is the Chairman of Alvas Education Foundation. He stated that the environment has been affected by a variety factors. The environment is also threatening the culture and life of tribal people, who live in harmony with nature.

Alvas has always provided a platform for at least 50 tribes to showcase their culture on every occasion, he said.

He said that it is a big task to streamline their musical instruments like drums, flutes and songs. Also, converting the population into human resource would be a game-changer for environmental protection.

Dr Kurian, Alvas College Principal said that it is tragic that people who live in nature and those who destroy it are both known as civilised.

Felicitation

Dr Savitha Gandmi of the Koraga community was awarded a PhD from Mangalore University and Jeeth Milan Roche who have planted thousands of saplings throughout Dakshina Kannada were both felicitated at the occasion.

An image of a documentary about the Paniya tribe in Wayanad, Kerala, was also released at the event.

Many paintings by visual arts students on the theme Varna Vibe were the main attraction at the event.
