To avoid such an outcome, the IPCC estimated that global greenhouse gases emissions must be reduced by at least 45% by 2030 and that they should reach net-zero in 2050. If current trends continue, Nature study authors predict that 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming could be reached by 2031 or earlier.
