KABUL, February 14 (Xinhua), — On Monday, the Afghan National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA), said that it had instructed the relevant agencies to resume collecting medical refuse.
It said that some private companies collected medical waste from all the private and public hospitals according to contracts. These would be disposed in incinerators by the hospitals before the government changed.
NEPA held a meeting on Sunday to urge all companies mentioned to resume the process in large cities across the country. According to the statement, the meeting included detailed discussions about the medical waste organization.
“The medical waste handling process has been stopped, which is causing problems. The process must be restarted. “Unfortunately, medical waste is now being combined with city waste, which poses serious threats to the health and should be taken seriously, according to the statement.
The meeting agreed that the monitoring of medical waste in cities and provinces must be increased and that medical waste management needs to be addressed.
According to reports, Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital, has been listed as one of the most polluted cities in the globe. Pollution is a silent killer for many Afghans.
