AFRICA: Morocco to Chair the 6th UN Environment Assembly

The 6th International Conference on Human Rights has been named to the Chair of the Kingdom of MoroccoThUnited Nations Environment Assembly, 6 (UNEA-6) following a vote by countries participating in the 5ThNairobi, Kenya – The Nairobi edition has just closed. Morocco will take over the organization and management of the global forum for the environment, which will be held under the UN Environment Program (UNEP) for the next two years.

“With its accumulated leadership in environmental protection, Morocco has won the confidence of the international community and also devoted its role in the implementation of initiatives for the African continent. We want to build on the successes of our predecessors and speed up the implementation of the resolutions that have been adopted in a spirit of efficiency and continuity. We want to contribute effectively to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agreed upon years ago,”Leila Benali (Moroccan Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development) said this.

Faced with the current environmental crisis, the Kingdom of Morocco will contribute to the development of the global plastic pollution agreement by 2024. This historic resolution was chaired by Espen B. Eide, Minister of Climate and Environment of Norway.

The 6ThUnited Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6), will be an opportunity to create partnerships between governments and the private sector in order to address environmental challenges. Morocco has declared its willingness to be the voice of Africa in the UN meeting by placing it under the umbrella of multilateral cooperation, international solidarity and global solidarity.ndMarrakech, Conference of the Parties (COP 22)
