After a paint leaking, an environmental group requests that Tesla Giga Berlin’s operating permit be revoked

The Green League, an environmental group, has launched an effort to revoke Tesla’s operating license for Gigafactory Berlin after learning of a significant paint leak.

It took Tesla so long to get its operating license at Gigafactory Berlin. This was partly due to environmental groups like The Green League, who petitioned the courts to stop the project because of a variety of reasons, from deforestation and water control.

It didn’t work because Tesla finally managed to obtain its operating license during the first week of March.

Despite the fact that the factory is now in production, environmental groups aren’t giving up.

After learning about a paint leaking incident at Gigafactory Berlin the Green League applied for a revocation of their license with the district authorities of Oder-Spree.

RBB24Report on the incident (translated in German)

According to the State Environment Agency (and the lower Oder-Spree Water Authority), 15,000 liters a paint mixture leaked into the Tesla paint shop on April 11. The liquid was pumped out by a disposal firm. Two to three liters of the liquid ran onto the access road and were bound.

A state report states that the paint was not found in the groundwater or sewage systems.

However, The Green League wants the license to be revoked until Tesla has paved some areas around its paint shop to prevent hazardous materials entering the aquifer.

The group claims that if the district doesn’t act on its request, it will ask the Ministry of the Environment to intervene.

Tesla Gigafactory Berlin currently produces Model Y vehicles for Europe.

Last month, a report claimed that Tesla was producing 350 Model Ys per Week at its plant. They are pushing to increase this number to 1,000 units per Week by the end of March.

According to a source familiar, the matter was being handled by a trusted source. Electrek that the paint shop is actually the main bottleneck in Tesla’s production at Gigafactory Berlin at the moment.
