Alberta will spend money on reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the budget for 2022-2023, but other programs in the environment ministry will be reduced.

After being subject to severe cuts in the budget last year, emission management now receives $30 million more in environment budget. The money comes mainly from companies that do not meet the greenhouse gas emission targets. $8 million more will go mainly to park operations.
Fish and Wildlife will see a 10% cut ($5.5 Million), and environmental science and monitoring programs, $110,000. Although water and air programs will be reduced, land issues may see even more.
Jason Nixon, Environment and Parcs Minister, said that the government is focusing on responsible spending.

He said that (the ministry), continues to provide critical environment protection of our land, air, and wildlife. He also stated that the TIER program had been a success.
Our province is home to amazing trails, well-maintained parks and expanded preservation efforts.
The overall ministry has seen a five percent increase to $653.6million from the previous budget.
The government will also spend $19 million over three years to streamline a program which consolidates regulatory applications and approvals, as well as environmental monitoring. It also plans on spending $10 million per annum on caribou habitat rehabilitation starting in 2023.
