Anchorsholme Academy teacher releases new book to teach children all about the environment

The front cover to ‘What’s Wrong? Mrs. Earth’

What is wrong with Mrs. Earth Catherine Powell, a Year 2 teacher at Thornton-Cleveleys School, released the book on her own, on December 15. The story centers around Mrs Earth, a character who becomes ill from the state of the planet. She needs everyone to help her get better. The book is for children aged three to eight years old and provides many helpful tips on how you can help the environment.

After last year’s Cop26 conference, Catherine felt inspired to write her first novel. Catherine is excited to release more children’s literature that helps children cope with loss after receiving feedback from Mrs. Earth Story.

I started October Half Term. I’ve always wanted to write children’s books, but it was Global Climate Change Week in October and Cop26 stuff. It seemed like children don’t really know much about it. I was inspired by Julia Donaldson’s writing in rhyme and thought it would be an easy method for children to understand difficult topics.

I want to teach my children more ethical, taboo topics on a level they can comprehend. My next book is in the works. It’s about grief, loss, and bereavement. Then you have bullying, peer pressure, poverty, and families that come with different sizes, homophobia, and other such things.
