VIJAYAWADA – Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan stated that environmental regulation is one the most important public services that governments provide for their citizens all over the globe. Environment Acts provide responsible disposal of polluting waste material. They also place emphasis on the need to preserve and conserve the environment as well as sustainable use of natural resources. This is reflected in India’s Constitution and in India’s international commitments.
The Governor addressed a conference on Environmental Legislation in India – A Relook, organised by the Indian Conference of Intellectuals in Vijayawada (Friday) and stated that Article 51A of India’s Constitution imposes a duty upon every citizen of India to improve and protect the natural environment. Article 48A of Constitution states that all States must work together to improve and protect the environment and the wildlife of the country. He stated that the environmental laws were designed to benefit society in terms both of health and other aspects, such as reducing pollution. Justice K Sreedhar Rao was the former Chief Justice (Acting), of Karnataka High Courts and Guwahati High Courts. Justice B Krishna Mohan was Judge of High Court of AP. Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy was Chairman of APERC. Justice B Siva Sankara Rao was Chairman of AP Judicial Preview Committee, and many others were present.
