For the second year, organizers of the annual speakers forum ‘Living in the Natural Environment’ have had to cancel it due to COVID-19.
The event which was set to take place at the Cochrane Ranchehouse on February 4 typically draws about 150 local area residents for a prime rib dinner, tradeshow and presentation relevant to the “surrounding landscape and the people that live there.”
A written statement by the MD of Bighorn states that they, along with the Cochrane Environmental Action Committee have made the tough call to cancel the 2021 event “due to the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus and the highly transmissible Omicron variant.”
The event’s focus this year was on the effects of wildfires on Alberta’s water supply as well as provincial wildfire management.
The annual ‘Living in the Natural Environment’event was first launched back in 2010, but the last time they were able to hold it was in 2020.
