Apple Today publishedThe company’s 2022 Environmental Progress Report outlines the company’s ongoing efforts to reduce its environmental impact and combat climate change. It also includes new details about its increased use recycled materials.
Apple has introduced certified-recycled gold and more than doubled its recycled tungsten, rare Earth elements, and cobalt use. Apple products used almost 20% recycled material last year, which is the highest percentage of recycled content ever.
The company stated that in 2021, 59 per cent of the aluminum, 45 per cent of the rare earth elements, and 13 per cent of the cobalt Apple shipped in products were made from recycled sources. Plastics accounted only for four percent of packaging. All new iPhones, iPads, AirPods and Mac models use 100 percent recycled Tin in the soldering of their main logic boards. Apple also uses recycled gold in plating the main logic board and wire for the front and rear cameras of iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro.
Apple today unveiled “Taz”, a machine that can recover materials from old electronics. It also explained how it aims to reduce mining by removing more materials from older devices.
Apple has launched a series of recycling innovations that includes Taz, a machine that uses a shredder-like technology, to separate magnets from audio module and recover rare earth elements. Apple has also expanded the capabilities and licenses of its patent-pending iPhone disassembly robot Daisy, which can take apart 23 models. Dave, an additional robot that disassembles Taptic Engines helps to recover rare earth and tungsten magnets, as well as steel.

Apple News, Apple Books, Apple Podcasts, the Apple TV app and the App store will all feature curated collections that offer opportunities to experience nature.
