Are we running out time to save Amazon rainforest? | Environment

From: UpFront

Scientists are expressing concern about an impending ecological disaster as deforestation is on the rise.

According to environmentalists and scientists, the planet’s most biodiverse area is in danger. Their destruction would have devastating consequences for the whole planet.

According to satellite imagery, the pace of deforestation in the Amazon has increased in recent years. The Amazon was losing the equivalent amount of three football fields per hour at one time. Critics blame Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaros’s policies for the increasing threat to the Amazon rainforest. They have launched a campaign to hold him criminally liable for the destruction.

According to Luis Fernando Guedes Pinto (Brazilian agronomist), our president doesn’t see any value in the forest and in the people who live in it.

This week UpFrontMarc Lamont Hill speaks to Leila Salazar Lopez, executive director at Amazon Watch, as well as Luis Fernando Guedes Pinto (professor at the Institute for Ecological Research, IP) and senior fellow at Ashoka.
