The Kampala International University of Tanzania (KIUT), Dar es Salaam, has seen the environment benefit the most. They have planted more than 80 species of date, mango and tamarind trees in the vicinity of its Nyerere Square.
Yesterday’s statement by KIUT stated that the exercise was part of the newly-launched National Environmental Policy 2021 via its @ Heart association.
Prof Kiwara Angwara was the KIUT Deputy vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration on the Universitys Gongo la Mboto Campus.
Prof Kiwara stated that KIUT was and will remain in history as the pioneer institution for higher learning in Tanzania. He also cited Dr Philip Mpangos call to the institutions to plant trees.
Prof Kiwara said that the initiative shows KIUTs compliance with the United Nations Strategic Development Goal 11 and 13 regarding Sustainable Cities and Communities and Climate Change.
Dr Mpango, who launched the National Environmental Policy 2021, stressed the importance and encouraged stakeholders to plant fruits and shades of trees all over the country.
Prof Kiwara highlighted the importance and urged others to do the same. He cited Mahatma Gandi, a prominent personality who advocated for environmental conservation. He stressed the interconnectedness between space, air, fire and water and encouraged the KIUT community, as well as Tanzanians, to keep the environment safe and loving.
Prof Kiwara was impressed by Ragine Deshpande’s efforts to green the already green KIUT environment. He urged the KIUT community and others to support the initiative and spread it in other spheres in order to increase KIUT’s visibility and marketing. He said that taking care of the environment is key to loving KIUT.
Deshpande, also known as Mama India at the institution, stated that humans have a responsibility for giving back to Mother Nature.
Members of KIUT management, staff, and student leaders attended the function.
