ATCM supports environment through beach cleanup campaign

More than 170 people took part in the campaign. They were divided into groups to collect plastics, glass, and paper.

More than 50 large bags of trash were collected by local companies and institutions like Frozy, Tvcabo and Conselho Nacional da Juventude.

This is a great example of social responsibility and how we can improve Mozambique’s waste management through concrete actions, Rodrigo Ferreira Rocha (ATCM President and FIA Vice-President for Sport).

ATCM shared some tips to reduce waste in Mozambiques beaches, public spaces and parks:

  • Plastic bags are not to be trusted! Use reusable bags and containers instead of plastic bags to transport your snacks.
  • You should bring a bag to dispose of all trash.
  • You can safely pick up trash and bottles while walking along the beach.
  • Play a game among your family members and friends to see who can gather more cans. You can cash in the money to the winner, but you get to keep the money!
  • Switch to reusable water containers instead of single-use plastic ones. This can make a big impact on your day.
  • Instead of focusing your weekend on food and drink, make it about socializing with others and engaging in physical activity. Frisbee!
  • If bonfires are permitted at the beach, please don’t burn plastics or other trash. You should also ensure that the fire is completely out before you leave.
  • Pet owners should take care of their pets so they don’t get stepped on by anything other than sand.
  • Don’t smoke! Cigarette smoke is the most harmful to our beaches. If you feel the need to smoke, make sure to dispose of the whole cigarette butt properly.
  • Encourage others you know and encourage them to use these tips to help keep our beaches clean during Memorial Day weekend.
  • Have a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend! Let’s all help keep our beaches clean!
