The program provides three main environmental benefits. It conserves 300 hectares of secondary foliage from the evergreen forest patches, creates biological corridors to connect the forest patches surrounding the solar plant, as well as the conservation of Black Howler Monkey habitat, an endangered species that was red-listed in the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

The first phase, which involved the relocation of individual howler monkeys as well as the creation of corridors connecting forest patches, is well under way. Phase two of the program is currently underway.
