In northwestern Ontario, March came in like a lamb, but Environment Canada claims that February was a lion.
Peter Kimbell, a meteorologist for warning preparedness, stated that the average daily temperature for the month was only 16.9 C.
Kimbell stated that this is almost five degrees lower than the average February temperature.
He said, “Five degrees below average” “And we had quite the few days of minus30 degrees overnight lows. In fact, the mercury was at 36 on February 24th and 34.5 by February 25th.
Kimbell observed that this February was the second coldest since January, which made it worse for people living in northwestern Ontario.
“If people were moaning [the cold]He said that it was for good reasons. “It’s completely justified, because five degrees below the normal temperature in wintertime is very cold.”
Kimbell stated that February also saw a lot of snow.
Hazelwood Lake, northeastern part of the city, received 67cm of snow last month. The February average is 27cm, he said.
Kimbell observed that it is not common to have both snowy and cold months, because it tends be drier when it drops.
It was still very snowy but not a record.
Kimbell predicted that March will be warmer than February because of the longer days and intense sun.
He stated that while there are some nicer days ahead, including a forecast high at 1 Cthis Sunday, there will still be some cold.
Kimbell stated, “For example Wednesday night will see a low at 23.” March is a transitional month. While it gets warmer, there are still some cold days ahead. That’s what we expect.
