Brazil: More than 100 aircraft were seized in connection with environmental crimes

The Yanomami Operation, which was designed to combat illegal mining activity within Indigenous Land, in Brazil’s extreme northernmost state, Roraima, bordering Venezuela and Guyana and seized 89 planes, disabled 22 others, and inspected 87 runways and 3 clandestine ports in three months of action.

The action was coordinated through the Secretariat of Integrated Operations, Ministry of Justice and Public Security.

Aeroin, our Brazilian media partner reported that 38 people were detained during this time for their involvement in environmental crimes. Nearly 30,000 kilos ore, 850 cartridges, 9 boats and 9 boats were seized. 89 000 liters of fuel, 10 rafts, 11 vehicles and 4 tractors were also confiscated. 22 gas stations were also seized.

The Federal Police, Highway Division and the National Public Security Force carried out the operation together.
