Canada’s Government takes further action to protect Canadians from pesticides.

Public consultation will increase transparency, modernize review procedures, and increase accessibility to real-world independent data.

OTTAWA, ON, March 21, 2022/CNW Telbec/ – The Government of CanadaThe government of Canada is committed to protecting Canadians against all pesticide-related hazards and to working to better protect wildlife, humans, and the environment. Health Canada has created the following: Pest Management Regulatory Agency(PMRA) ensures all pesticides are approved for use in CanadaRespect strict standards for safety, health, and environmental protection.

Today, Jean-Yves Duclos (Minister of Health) officially launched the discussion document. Targeted Review of the Pest Control Products Act: Further Enhancing Protection of Health and the Environment (PCPA), and Online Public Consultation.

This review follows the Government of Canada’s August 4 announcement,Health Canada will review specific provisions of the Pest Control Products Act, which was highlighted in this article. It also aligns to the Minister of Health’s Mandat Letter.

The consultations and discussion document seek the input of Canadians and stakeholders about how the PMRA can transform their work in the following areas.

  • Modernizing the pesticide reviews process can improve human health as well as environmental protection.
  • Enhancing transparency and stakeholder access to information to encourage meaningful participation in decision making
  • To better inform decisions regarding human and environment health, it is important to increase the use real-world data and independent advice.

PMRA intends to engage as many people as possible in its review of the Pest Control Products Act. Consultation sessions with academia, Indigenous communities and consumer groups, as well as non-governmental organizations and governments will be held in addition to soliciting comments from Canadians.
