OTTAWA, ON, March 21, 2022/CNW Telbec/ – Government of CanadaIt is committed to protecting Canadians from all pesticide-related risks and working to improve the protection of wildlife, human health, and the environment. Health Canada has created the following: Pest Management Regulatory Agency(PMRA), which ensures that all pesticides have been approved for use in CanadaEnsure that you meet all safety and health standards.

Today, Jean-Yves Duclos (Minister of Health) officially launched the discussion document. Targeted review of the Pest Control Products Act to further strengthen protection of the environment and health (PCPA), and Online Public Consultation.

This review follows the Government of Canada’s August 4 announcement,Health Canada will be reviewing specific provisions in the Pest Control Products Act. This was highlighted by Health Canada. It also aligns with Minister of Health’s Letter of Mandat.

The consultations and discussion document seek the input of Canadians and stakeholders about how the PMRA can transform their work in the following areas.

  • Modernizing the pesticide reviews process can improve human health as well as environmental protection.

  • Enhancing transparency and stakeholder access to information to encourage meaningful participation in decision making

  • To improve the quality of decisions for human and environmental health, we need to increase the use of real-world data as well as independent advice.

PMRA intends to engage as many people as possible in its review of the Pest Control Products Act. Consultation sessions will be held with non-governmental organizations, academia and Indigenous communities.
