Celebrities and politicians like to tell average Americans how to change their behavior in order to combat climate change on Earth Day. They often fail to live up to their words.
Liberal politicians and celebrities have been accused for being hypocrites because they fail to live the eco-friendly lifestyles which they advocate. Here are a few examples from Hollywood A-listers, tech billionaires and Democrat politicians who have been accused of being hypocrites regarding helping the environment.
MARK RUFFALO LEONARDO DIICAPRIO, BEN STILLER, AND MORE STARS SIGN LETTER POSTING CANADA GAS PIPELINE
Mark Ruffalo
Mark Ruffalo, the actor of “Avengers”, is a passionate climate change advocate. He participated in events such as the Peoples Climate March 2015 and argued against fracking. Ruffalo used his career to promote environmental causes. He starred in and coproduced “Dark Waters,” a movie about a corporate lawyer trying to expose the poisonous effects of corporate pollution.
During the 2014 People’s Climate March the Hulk actor appeared AskIf celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio were the greatest spokespersons for climate change, when they have significant carbon footprints,
Ruffalo replied, “Oh brother.” “That is a question that you shouldn’t ask here today because it defies what this is about.”
Later, he said that anyone critical about DiCaprio is either a coward or an ideologist.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
The Duchess and Duke of Sussex are strong advocates for governments to act against climate change.
Prince Harry told Oprah that the world we live in is “depressing” for children growing up today. He said that depending on where you are, your country is either on fire or underwater and houses and forests are being destroyed. “Climate Change is really playing an important part in all of this, as well as social media. And we just don’t – I mean, I know lots if people out there are trying to fix these issues – but that whole analogy of walking into a bathroom with a mop if the bath is too full, rather than turning off the tap.”
He stated, “Is there really an moment, a reckoning time, post-COVID where we can actually take a look at each other, take a look at ourselves, decide that we need to do more about stopping or allowing things that are causing so great harm to so many of you at the source, rather then being distracted from the symptom?”
However, their environmental rhetoric hasn’t stopped them from flying around the world in private jets.
The couple flew private jets to Ibiza, France, and Nice, France, in 2019. Harry acknowledged that “no one can be perfect” in his private jet usage, but stated that “we all have a responsibility to our individual impact.” According to reports, Meghan Markle, Harry’s wife, wasn’t bothered about the hypocrisy charges.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has become a symbol of the next generation fighting climate change. She spent part her first day in Congress protesting climate changes in the office of Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She introduced the Green New Deal, which would transform many industries during her first year in Congress. In January 2019, a Squad member predicted that “the world will end in 12 Years.”
Ocasio-Cortez was accused of hypocrisy regarding her socialist policies. However, her support for the “Green New Deal Initiative” initiative was also criticized in 2019.
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez famously claimed that “the end of the world will come in 12 years” in January 2019. However, the New York Post noted that Ocasio Cortez had only 18 Amtrak rides and logged in 66 airline transactions in her 2018 campaign. Ocasio Cortez continued to double down on critics despite this.

Jeff Bezos
Jeff Bezos (Amazon founder) was among the many wealthy guests at the United Nations Climate Summit in November. Fox News exclusive images of Bezos’ private jet, worth $65 million, parked at Glasgow airport at the time were obtained by Fox News.
Bezos has donated billions to combat climate change. He also established the Bezos Earth Fund to support research. However, he did not comment on his use of a private plane.

As AOC, Michael Moore, a climate activist and filmmaker, has been criticized for capitalist hypocrisy. Moore’s environmental film “Planet of the Humans,” which is a movie about the dangers of man’s impact on the environment, continues this trend.
Moore made several statements on the “planetary crisis” caused by climate change around the film’s release date of Earth Day 2020. DiCaprio is one celebrity who travels by private plane to climate summits despite warnings about affecting the planet. DiCaprio also owns multiple yachts, homes, and other items that can significantly increase one’s carbon footprint.

By 2021, Fox News reported that the same jet emitted 30 times the amount of carbon produced by an average passenger per year.
Despite this, Kerry is often praised as a climate representative. Kerry was ridiculed further for framing Russia’s-Ukraine conflict through a climate change lens.

Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States, has been a strong advocate for climate change for decades. But his predictions have yet come true. Despite similar hypocritical acts, he still enjoys influence in public sphere.
Gore called for the world to “say farewell to coal, oil, and gas” in 2021 to address the “political tipping” caused by climate change. During the UN COP 26 conference on global warming, he also called for the public and private sectors “to get real” about reducing their emissions.
Although he has called for reducing energy use, Gore was criticized for using 20 times more energy than the average American fifteen years ago.

Like many other political figures, former President Barack Obama notably appeared at the international climate change summit in Glasgow back in November.
