CHSRA

The California High-Speed Rail Authority has (CHSRA) been established in the US. PublishedThe Final Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Assessment Statement (FinalEIR/EIS) is required for high-speed rail in Northern California.

This includes the San Jose to Merced Project Section, which will stretch for approximately 144.84km.

CHSRAs board will review the final document and approve it during its April two-day meeting.

The approval of the preferred alignment will also be considered.

After the approval of the project section, it will be shovel ready once construction funding is available.

Brian Kelly, CHSRA CEO, said that the environmental document is the culmination years of analysis and stakeholder engagement. It is an important milestone for advancing high-speed railway between Silicon Valley and Central Valley.

These two regions are important economic areas that can be connected will change the way people travel across the state. They will also create more opportunities for housing and equitable employment.

San Jose to Merced Project Section will run through or near Santa Clara, San Jose and Morgan Hill, Gilroy, Los Banos, connecting Silicon Valley with the Central Valley.

In the meantime, the preferred alternative alignment will include modernization of existing rail tracks between San Jose & Gilro.

It will also include a new high-speed rail line with over 24.14 km of tunnels through Pacheco Pass in Diablo Range.

This segment of California’s state-wide high-speed railway system will connect California’s regions by public rail and transit. It will also reduce travel times.

The San Jose Diridon Station and downtown Gilroy are the preferred alternatives for the San Jose-Merced Project Section.

The current rail corridor between San Jose and Gilroy will be electrified, upgraded, and made available for high-speed rail and electrified Caltrain service. This will cover South San Jose County and Southern Santa Clara County.

CHSRA approved the final EIR/EIS last August for the Bakersfield-to-Paldale alignment segment.
