- The Grand Rapids Doppler Radar will temporarily be unavailable while we prepare for new equipment. Officials with the National Weather Service say that the radar disturbance will likely last two more weeks and begin on February 14. Grand Rapids doppler radar will be down while data from nearby areas will be reliable. (WOODTV.com)
- Feyen Zylstra is an industrial technology company located just 15 minutes from Grand Rapids. It plans to open a “smart production center” this spring.The U.S. Department of Energy will grant $250,000. Smart manufacturing is a combination of automation, robotics and industrial networking that produces reliable, achievable results in the manufacturing process. (MLive.com)
- Grand Rapids’ Church Lake is at center of a debate regarding winter road salt. Below the lake’s surface, road salt and phosphorus have created an oxygen-deficient area that is toxic to aquatic life. The dramatic example of what is occurring in Michigan is Church Lake. This is due to Michigan’s dependence on rock salt to keep roads open during winter. (Michigan Radio)
