The Portuguese Environment Agency (Agncia Portuguesa do Ambiente), recognized the Association for Urban Mobility on Bicycles as a Non-Governmental Organisation for Environment, according to a source.
Ciclaveiro’s inclusion in the list of Non Governmental Organisations of Environment “recognizes this collective the Statute of NGO” for their work in favor of urban mobility by bike, as a tool for combating climate change, promoting quality of living in cities, and defending the rights to health and equal access to travel modes.
Ciclaveiro, a non-profit association, aims to “promote encourage and stimulate use of the bicycles as a mode of transport, particularly in the region of Aveiro”.
The project was created as a civic movement on November 14, 2014, and became an association in 2016. It has been seeking “an approach to approaching the community through collaborative projects that involve citizens, institutions, associations, and companies” since its inception.
Its activities are designed to encourage a change in mobility habits.
He stresses that Ciclaveiro recognizes the region of Aveiro’s excellent natural characteristics, a favorable territorial dimension, and a strong cultural connection to cycling, which encourages the use of this mode of transport.
It has been a home to many initiatives since its inception, including those aimed at children, local commerce, and the general community.
It inaugurated the “Casa da Bicicleta” in 2020. This is a space where you can meet and hold events and actions that support and encourage bicycle use.
