Cleanfarms reduces grain bag environmental handling fee

MOOSE JAW (Saskatchewan), March 4, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE). Cleanfarms, which runs the collection program to collect agricultural grain bags from Saskatchewan and Manitoba, has lowered the Environmental Handling Fee (EHF), which is charged at the point of purchase. The current EHF is 25 cents per kilo. It will now be 22.5 cents per kilo.

The fee goes to the province to fund recycling programs. Grain bags that are returned for recycling can be used to fuel the circular economy and make new plastic film products. Many products can be recycled by paying environmental handling fees. These include consumer electronics and oil and oil containers.

Cleanfarms manages the recycling programs in these two provinces for the first sellers of agricultural grain bags from Saskatchewan and Manitoba. These companies take responsibility for recovering used grain bags after growers are finished with them in compliance with provincially-regulated stewardship policies.
