The Climate Justice Teach-In is a two-day event that focuses on the variety of topics that are connected with art and climate justice. It will take place at the Erb Memorial Union from May 16-17.
The organizers of the panels, workshops, events and other events are: Climate Justice LeagueThe Coalition Against Environmental Racism Student Sustainability Centre. All students, faculty members, and community members are welcome to attend the free, student-led event. There is no registration required.
This event is fundamental to our mission to provide support and education for students from all backgrounds on topics of environment justice, highlighting diversity of work and art that intersects with climate justice. Riley OConnell, an environmental studies major, and the Student Sustainability Centers coordinator for environmental justice education outreach, stated that this event is crucial to our mission.
The first day of teach-in will see three panels, at 3:00, 4:30, and 6 p.m. in the EMUs Gumwood Room. Each panel will discuss issues related to art and climate change.
The second day includes three workshops: Zine Making and Collage Riot. Banners, posters, and propaganda are also included. The workshops can be attended simultaneously as drop-in activities in the EMU Crater Lake Rooms from 4-7 p.m.
This event centers students in leading climate change and environmental justice impacts and, very critically creative practice as a crucial tool for taking on the hardest questions in climate injustice, said Erin Moore, architecture professor and member the Faculty Advisory Committee for provosts.
