China cites harsh business environment after I-T searches on Chinese firms

Tuesday’s statement by the coal ministry indicated that it will approach the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to obtain certain relaxations in norms so that fossil fuel production can continue to increase.

Coal Minister Pralhad Singhi addressed a function marking the foundation stone laying four projects of Northern Coalfields Ltd, Coal India-arm Northern Coalfields Ltd. (NCL). He urged the state-run miner to increase production to meet the set targets.

“Pralhad Joshi stated that the Coal Ministry is likely approach the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to obtain certain relaxations in norms so that overall coal production can be increased,” the coal ministry stated in a statement.

He also noted that the domestic demand for coal has increased significantly due to a sharp rise in international prices.

He stressed the importance of ensuring a steady supply of coal for the power sector. He urged the CIL and coal ministry officials, to discuss immediate measures to increase coal production.

Minister asked Coal India for completion of 35 First Mile Connectivity projects within the deadlines.

Joshi praised NCL for meeting the coal production goal. Raosaheb Patil Danve, Minister of State for Coal, Mines and Railways, spoke at the occasion. He stated that NCL can play an important role in achieving production targets of one million tons coal by 2025.

While increasing production is important, it is also important to address environmental concerns. The minister also stressed the importance of a pro-people initiative.

Anil Kumar Jain, coal secretary, stated that investments should be used properly within the time frame to give momentum to mechanized transportation of coal. According to him, Indian Railways will be asked for an increase in rake availability.
